Sunday Morning Visit

Sunday Morning Visit
Lots of work to do with all these soft building blocks!!
This orphanage is SO VERY different from the one Belle was living.  It's just amazing!!  We even noticed the smell of the food is so much better.
NOTE TO SELF - Never put your finger in Gavin's mouth when he is eating a cookie even if you think he bit off a piece too big.  I got it now Gavin!!!!
No shoes today - not sure why.  No pants either - just tights.  So he was so proud when he could stand up with slippery socks on.
 Father & Son!!!!  So Amazing!!!!!

When we walked in to Gavin's room today he was sitting at the table with his head down.  I said "Hello" to the nanny's.  He picked his head up so quickly and smiled the biggest smile and reached for me.  Oh My!!!!  I was a moosh mess after that!!!!   He KNOWS!!!!!!  HE KNOWS WE BELONG TO HIM!!!!!!

Gavin has a hard lump in the center of his chest.  I am not familiar with this - could it just be the way his chest formed???  Do you have any idea what this could be?  I would love to hear from you if you have any ideas!!! Thank you!!!!

So now we hang out at the apartment until we can go see our boy again at 4pm!!!  I can't Wait!!!!

  1. My son has something like a lump on his chest, but he is after a heart surgery. Did Gavin have any heart problems and surgeries?

    Great photos! Thank you!

  2. Ouch on the bite. lol but look at those cute little teeth impressions! :)

Oh I bet you were putty in his hands once he reached for you, way to go Gavin!

I love those building blocks, looks like Gavin does too.

  3. It could possibly be a protruding xiphoid process. A xiphoid process is a small cartilaginous process (extension) of the lower part of the sternum. This can be normal. (of course this is just a guess as I haven't seen the location)

  5. I'm SOOOO glad to hear Gavin's orphanage is so much better than Belle's...but it doesn't take much, does it? Like the food that smelled like fish, but looked like chicken???

He is a complete doll! I'm so very happy for you all! Love ya!

  6. Sorry you got bit - OUCH!!! Milana did that too. (Ok...she still does). As for the chest it could be pectus carinatum.

  8. Sounds like you got lots of good info on the chest. I know people who have pointy zyphoid processes and others who have indents in their chests.

  9. Yes, Zeb has the Pectus carinatum also. It can possibly cause scoliosis, which we think he has. We are looking into getting a brace to help both areas. I've heard bracing can prevent the deformation from causing problems later in life. I'll let you know what we find.

Gavin is so adorable! Can't wait to see him with you for good.

  11. First of all, Gavin, is so cute!! It looks like he is bonding well and will be a wonderful addition to the rest of your beautiful family. Congratulations!!

Our son, Jack, also had a hard lump on his chest which we discovered during our first visit (Russia). We expressed our concern so the translator and the orphanage director sent us to the doctor and to a place to have it x-rayed. The doctors in Russia said it would go away when he got older and put on some more weight. We e-mailed the x-rays and pictures to our international specialist in Houston and she said it was pectus carinatum. P.C. does not go away and may get worse when he reaches puberty. If you email a picture of his bare chest to your pediatrician, they should be able to tell you if it is P.C. It was scary when we first discovered it -- my overactive (and, at the time, highly emotional) mind was racing with the possible causes. It was nice to be reassured while we were still in Russia that it was only cosmetic and not something that needed medical attention.

Sorry about the anonymous post - I forgot my google password.

  13. My son had a hard lump - marble sized - between the rib cages and down a bit - and I had forgotten the word for it until I saw others post about the xiphoid process. (Really - who comes up with these terms!) That was my first thought.

Glad things continue to go well. Love all the pictures!
