Gavin's Surgery Tomorrow & Conor's Back

Would you please keep Gav in your prayers for his surgery tomorrow?  Thank you so much!!

Gavin is going to be circumcised and he will have two little incisions on each side of his groin to place each testicle where it belongs, then they will be sutured in place.  OUCH!!!!  Our poor little buddy!!!!  Oh my!!!! If any of you have experience with this surgery PLEASE leave a comment and let me know what to expect with recovery.  I am so nervous that he will be in severe pain!!  UGH!!!  Sweet little Gav!!

Speaking of pain.  Poor Conor hurt his back a little over 4 weeks ago while skiing.  We went to the Doctor then and he was diagnosed with muscle injury and it would take some time to heal.  Well it never got any better and it actually got a lot worse the last 3 days.  Two nights ago he was in so much pain he couldn't even sleep.  Yesterday morning he couldn't move his right arm and I noticed that the top of his back was very swollen.  I took him to the Doctor again and x-rays were ordered.  The x-rays were negative - THANK GOD!!!  We scheduled an appointment with a sports medicine Doctor for Thursday.  We went home from the x-rays and Conor was able to sleep a little bit on the new very strong pain medicine.  But when he woke up - OH MY!!!  He couldn't get out of bed.  He couldn't move at ALL!!!  He was suffering!!!  He was in so much pain that he couldn't hold in his emotions - it was that BAD!! Dave had to lift him out of bed.   That sure is something on a Mother's heart!!  So we called the Doctor and were instructed to bring him to the ER in hopes for an MRI!!  Well after 6 hours in the ER they said they couldn't order an MRI as it was NOT URGENT enough.  UGH!!!  So they ordered a muscle relaxer and told Conor to keep his appointment with the sports med Doc.  Today he is resting on all the medication and I am so grateful.  One of the times I checked on him he tried to sit up but he just couldn't.  He is stuck flat on his back and I HATE seeing him like this!!  I tried helping him up but it was obvious that he was not at all able to tolerate the pain just to sit and he gave up!!   I PRAY that the Doctor tomorrow can figure out what is going on and Conor can have some relief ASAP!!!!   Would you please Pray for Conor too?  Thank you so so so MUCH!!!!

Please, if you have any advice for either of the boys - I would LOVE IT!!!!!  Thank you!!!

  1. Both of my boys went through that surgery...they were both seven. After the day of the surgery it didn't seem to bother either of them too much. I was so thankful. Both of my boys are independent in the bathroom so we had to make sure everything was in place every time. By the second and third days they were both back to pretty much normal. One of my sons was non verbal and was not able to express pain very well, that was the hardest part!! Prayers for you, Gavin and Coner!

  4. I always seem "drawn" to your blog when one of your Babies are hurting! With the circumcision...well they do hurt. But, little ones handle LOTS better than Big Boys! ; ) I would INSIST that they give him a prescription for a narcotic pain meds...at least for the first 24-36 hours/ That and alternation it with Childrens Advil/Motrin (anything ibuprofen.) They will probably suggest an ice-pack. YOUCH! Summer, here's a great alternative to ice cubes. Fill a large ziplock bag with 1 Cup water and 2 Cups rubbing alcohol. Seal it tightly, after getting all of the air out. Then place it in another bag and freeze it. It comes our a soft slush and is nice and soft,

I would do pretty much the same for Conor. Advil, along with the muscle relaxer. And, a ice pack where ever he needs it. You can alternate the heat and ice pack. It might help to put a pillow under his knees.

I've been praying for Taylor and for you! I know it has to be difficult to have your Girl so far away/ So, I'll add your boys to my list! Love You! ~ Jo

  5. Summer, check with Laurie Maddex. I think Zeke had something similar... I know he had a circ, and maybe one undescended testicle. Zeke is 4 and adopted from #3 in Kharkov.

  6. Praying for your boys today. Our son had this surgery done when he was 3, after we adopted him from Ethiopia. The first 24 hours are the hardest, but the pain medicine and some "special" treats made it better (ice cream for dinner always works). By the time 24 hours were up he was pretty much a normal toddler. I would keep up with Motrin however every 6 hours like another poster suggested. Don't give the pain a chance top even begin.

  7. Hi Summer, my son Danny had this exact same surgery at about 2.5 years old. We couldn't do the circ at birth due to his heart defect...but at 2.5 years old, he needed ear tubes so we decided to do it all at once since he was going to be sedated anyway. He had the circ and 2 sutures on each side. He had some strong pain meds while in recovery...but we were released the same day and we only used motrin/tylenol at home. Many prayers for quick recovery!!

  8. Ugh. Why would you put him through the pain of a circ for no reason at all? His penis is fine naturally, there is RARELY a reason to do that surgery. I feel really sorry for him, glad he bounced back quickly but shame on you for doing that to him for no reason. America is a twisted country that we think mutilating small children's genitals is what's right.
